Removalists on the Gold Coast

Two states, one coast

The ABS counts the Gold Coast and Tweed Heads as one urban area of 693,596 people, and it has the most apartments of any regional hub: 21.1% of homes were flats or apartments in 2021, with 33.0% rented (ABS). A move from Coolangatta to Tweed Heads crosses into New South Wales, and in summer the clocks differ by an hour because NSW has daylight saving and Queensland does not (NSW Government). Removal vans on Gold Coast streets

The City of Gold Coast says a heavy vehicle parking permit is not needed for the short-term parking of a removal van at a residential property (City of Gold Coast). The general rule still applies: a truck of 4.5 tonnes or 7.5 metres may not stop on a residential road for more than an hour, and nothing may stop on a footpath or nature strip (City of Gold Coast). Anything that occupies a footpath, verge or lane needs a temporary road closure approval with 15 business days' notice or more (City of Gold Coast).

Bulky waste either side of the border

On the Gold Coast, households get one on-demand bulky kerbside service a year, a 3 cubic metre skip placed near the kerb, though high-rise complexes with a bulk bin are not eligible (City of Gold Coast). In Tweed Shire, households get two on-call collections a year of up to 2 cubic metres each, and unit blocks book through the strata (Tweed Shire Council). Then request a quote.

Common questions

Does a removal van need a parking permit on the Gold Coast?

Not for short-term parking at a residential property, the City of Gold Coast says. Heavier trucks still may not stop on a residential road for more than an hour.

Is a move from Coolangatta to Tweed Heads interstate?

Yes. Tweed Heads is in New South Wales, so NSW rules apply on that side and the clocks differ in summer.

Can I get a skip for unwanted furniture?

City of Gold Coast households get one on-demand bulky kerbside skip a financial year, unless they live in a complex with a bulk bin.
