Removalists in Perth

Perth is a city of houses, but its strata rules on moving furniture are among the most specific in the country. Here is what matters for a quick Perth move.

Perth's strata rule on moving furniture

Most strata rules in Australia say nothing about moving day. Western Australia's do: default conduct by-law 9 says you must not move furniture or a large object through common property without first giving the strata council enough notice to arrange for its nominee to be present (Strata Titles Act 1985 (WA)). On a short-notice move, tell the strata council as soon as you know the date. By-law 1(2) also bars parking on common property without the strata company's written approval. See apartment moves.

Loading zones, verges and towing

In the City of Perth only a commercial or authorised vehicle may stop in a loading zone, while continuously loading or unloading, for the signed time or 30 minutes if none is shown (City of Perth). A truck can use a verge only with the occupier's authority and where no sign prohibits it.

Clearways are towing territory: under the Road Traffic Code no driver may stop in one (legislation.wa.gov.au), and Main Roads WA tows vehicles stopped in CBD clearways in peak periods, in No Stopping zones and in bus lanes to a compound in Northbridge (Main Roads WA).

Renting and clearing out

Greater Perth is mostly houses: only 7.6% of homes were flats or apartments in 2021, and 26.6% were rented (ABS). The City of Perth's bulk verge collection runs twice a year (City of Perth). WA tenants give at least 30 days' notice on a fixed term and 21 days on a periodic agreement (Consumer Protection WA). Then request a quote.

Common questions

Do I need to tell the strata before moving out of a Perth unit?

Under WA's default by-law 9, yes: give the strata council enough notice to arrange for its nominee to be present. Your scheme may have amended its by-laws.

Can the removal truck park on the verge?

In the City of Perth only with the occupier's authority and where no sign prohibits verge parking.

What happens if the truck stops in a clearway?

No driver may stop in a clearway in WA, and Main Roads WA tows vehicles from CBD clearways in peak periods.
