Small homes, frequent moves

South Yarra moves often. At the 2021 Census about 30.7% of residents aged one and over had lived at a different address a year earlier, and 79.5% of homes were flats or apartments. Homes are small too, averaging 1.9 bedrooms against 3.1 across Victoria. Many moves here suit a smaller truck and a two-person crew, but the building decides the pace: book the lift or loading area with your building manager before you request a free quote. Punt Road and the clearways

Punt Road has had 24-hour, seven-day clearways on both sides since August 2016: on the east side from Alexandra Avenue to Gladstone Street and on the west side from Alexandra Avenue to Union Street (Premier of Victoria). A removal truck cannot stop there at any hour, so plan to load from a side street. Check the signs on Toorak Road, Commercial Road and High Street too.

Parking a removal truck

Most of South Yarra is in the City of Stonnington. Its parking permit pages list resident, visitor and special occasion permits, none described as a removalist permit, and say permits are not valid on caravans or trailers (City of Stonnington). Ask the removalist how they plan to park, and ask the council if you need a space held.

Part of South Yarra is in the City of Melbourne, which issues reserved parking permits to removalists. Applications must arrive more than five business days ahead and a vehicle over six metres must book enough bays for its full length (City of Melbourne application form).

Does Stonnington have a removalist parking permit?

Its parking permit pages list resident, visitor and special occasion permits and none is described as a removalist permit. Ask the council about holding a space, and ask the removalist how they will park.

What size truck does a South Yarra move need?
